Alright, alright. There’s a few things going on here. First off, Reggie Fils-Aime told Forbes “I will be able to say our licensees ‘get it’ when their very best content is on our platform, and with very few exceptions today, that’s not the case.” That’s a pretty good conversation starter right there. He also lamented the absence of Grand Theft Auto and Spore on his platform, teased community features without spilling anything at all, and for kicks threw us this utterly hopeless word on a price cut: “At some point, it will be time to adjust the [price], but we’re nowhere near that point now.” We’re pretty astonished that a console honcho like Reggie would so summarily insult his third-party partners, but we can’t help but agree — though peep Nintendo Wii Fanboy’s via link down there for an alternate perspective on the matter. To us, the question really lies in the blame game: is Nintendo’s Wii strategy and unique hardware approach to blame, or is everybody else out there too dense to cash in? But really, this is just too wild, too incendiary, too awesome for us to hog all the discussion. Hit up the vaguely-applicable poll option, and then let loose in the comments. We’re all ears!

Acidmods just can’t get enough of hacking up our console controllers, and now the company has replaced the Wiimote’s A button with a clicking trackball (a la Blackberry Pearl). The result is an easier way to scroll through webpages and certain menu systems, as you can see in this video:
However, this trackball was designed to work on more than just the Wii. Acidmods guarantees it for the PSP 300, PSP Slim, DS, Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers.
Unlike most mod demonstrations, Acidmods wants to sell you this actual product. They’re not taking orders yet, but they will traditionally sell you the necessary hardware or mod your controller for you at an additional cost. The first link at the end of this post isn’t up yet, but it should have purchasing information soon. [Shop via Acidmods and MaxConsole]

BlackFriday.info just posted up four more Black Friday ads to get you ready for Spendathon ‘08. Since nobody here really comes to read about getting an automatic doughnut maker from JC Penney for $99 (maybe you do?), we’ll assume you’re more interested in the Nintendo Wii for $224, Wii Fit for $78 and vaious Blu-rays for $10.87 found at Sam’s Club. If you really want that Wii, you’d better go get in line tomorrow. [Black Friday - Thanks Shannon!]

No idea who did this originally, but Wired found a video of two dudes playing Wii Fit LEGO Mindstorms Soccer. Wait, what? Looks like the guys hooked up two Wii Fit balance boards to a LEGO Mindstorms trucks(?) and made them move around in sync with whatever leaning or jumping motion was made. A very fancy display of hackery all around, but can you imagine what the actual Wii Fit game will say when they weigh themselves on it? “Congratulations on being the only obese soccer players in existence.” [YouTube via Wired]

Even though I haven’t bought AA batteries in quite some time now (USBCells still power my Wiimotes, the only things in the house that aren’t Li-ion powered it seems), this concept for a quick and easy re-charger for AA cells is nice looking. Like a torpedo’s nose, the Febot (Fembot?), a design by Ji-yun Kim, Soon-young Yang and Hwan-ju Jeon out of Korea catches a breeze when suction-mounted to a window, which it uses to top-off a single AA inside. Instructables user grybaz has joined a special crew today with his masterful design, and that would be the oft-unappreciated DIY clock crowd. By utilizing a drill, screwdriver kit, pliers, a basic quartz clock movement and a dozen or so old hard drives, he was able to piece together something truly worthy of den placement. Handymen aren’t apt to find this one any more difficult than fixing that pipe that one time underneath the sink, so if you’re looking to do something useful with all of those 4GB 3.5-inch HDDs you’re still hanging onto from college, roll up your sleeves and hit the read link.
